About countymoves

countymoves turns the IRS county-to-county migration files into readable pages: one profile for each of 285 counties with rich data, a page for every state, a tracer for 2,748 counties and a set of notes on what the numbers show.

The site is run by Hannah Coleman. This is an independent reference site, not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Internal Revenue Service, the US Census Bureau or any other government body.

The figures are computed directly from the public IRS files. Nothing on the site is a recommendation about where to live, move or invest; it describes where tax filers moved.
